Skyline Sat. Nov. 28

Postby ToTheTop » Wed Nov 25, 2009 12:45 pm

Two weeks ago was my first time up the Skyline Trail and it’s calling me back. Although I was the last of the 5 of us in the group I made it in less than 7 hours of climbing time. (This is great training as I’m planning to summit over 18,500 feet next month.) Now I’m returning this Sat. Nov. 28th with a friend and want to know about parking/shuttle/taxi. I want to park at the Tram but what time does the gate on N Tram Way open or where do you park if it is closed? Is the gate closed but not locked? Are taxis available to take you from the tram back to Ramon Road or the Museum and how much is it? Anyone want to shuttle together?

The gates at the bottom of the tram road open around 5.00 am or later. and are locked somewhere around 10.00 pm (not sure on this one)
You can park at lots A and B below the tram station overnight.
At what time are you planning on starting?
Taxis back cost between 20 and 25 dollers but if you have three or four people
sharing the cost of it feels much better. I have often got a ride back with hikers that I meet on the trail. I am not sure if I will be going this Saturday. I usually car pool with friends from San Bernadino.

FYI. Gates on Tram Way may not get unlocked as late as 545AM. Gates are locked at about 10PM at night. Park in the overnight lots, A or B. Be prepared for huge crowds at the mountain station on Sat. and a wait to get back down (in the afternoon).

It would probably be better for you to leave your car at the trailhead in the morning and then get a taxi back down from the tram after your hike. Just thinking it might be difficult to get a taxi to meet you at the tram at 6am. Could really mess up the start of your hike if they're late or don't want to come up before tramway opening.

Please be careful with the cold temps and snowy conditions on the mountain this weekend.
