June 27th, 2009, going up San Bernardino Peak Trail.

To help everyone finish by, say, noon, I suggest we meet at the ranger station at Bryant and Hwy 38 at 5:00. Angelus Oaks is just about 15-20 minutes from the ranger station, so we can get an early start - say 5:30. I'll reserve a couple of permits, each one is good for up to 12, so we'll be fine. (If these times are too early to start or too late to start eating and drinking, let me know.)

When going in a group, I usually find we all mix and match as we go along - speeds and desired distances vary. As I mentioned earlier, this trail has several nice spots where people may just stop for a snack, relax a bit, and turn around from there.

For those who like to go fast, the peak is easily doable in 3 hours, which would still allow a return time before noon. For those ailing or just feeling like an easy day...

Limber Pine Bench or the Stone Bench at 6 and 7 miles respectively, offer better views even though they're shorter.

I hadn't mentioned it previously, but there's even a nice place, Manzanita Flat, that stretches from mile 3 to mile 4 of the trail with virtually no incline. It's a wonderful place to slow down and just enjoy the walk, then sit and relax at the trail junction to Columbine at mile 4. This could be another turnaround spot, depending on how people feel.

We can all return together,if that's fine with everyone, arriving at my place at noon. This would also give anyone not hiking a specific arrival time to shoot for.

I'll start the sign up list now, so I hope everyone is ready to go!

Well, Michiko is about six months pregnant (we're going to have a daughter, God willing), so I'm thinking not even Manzanita Flat would work for her. :D

I have to check with Michiko, but noon on the 27th sounds good. We're scrambling to get prepped for the baby, so Saturdays are at a premium, but hopefully I can earn some "points" so "the boss" will allow me to go. :)

She's getting a little anxious about things. She wanted me to move all the bookshelves around. What's that got to do with the baby? I think it's just "nesting instinct."

I'll post one way or the other in the next few days.
