Marion Mountain Trail conditions

Postby Bartman » Tue May 05, 2009 6:08 pm

In what is becoming a family tradition on Memorial Day weekend, my three "homies" and I plan to hike up the Marion Mountain Trail on Memorial Day weekend. My crew is looking for any excuse to get out of this "fun" evolution and have been reminding me how sloppy the trail was last year, pretty soon after we departed the trailhead. I realize conditions can change quickly this time of year, but does anyone know how the MM Trail is these days? Thanks!

Today I did it for the first time. I don't think it's open officially until Friday. There were some logs to get around, but maybe that will be fixed before Memorial Day Weekend. The most snow was in Little Round Valley. I held my poles together and shoved them into the snow piles along the main trail to give my friends directions. As much as I don't like cairns, I did make a small one at the creek crossing to let my friends know to cross the creek left as soon as they enter LRV, instead of following the footprints that stay on the right side of the creek. There are also some sticks blocking a couple trace trails that branch off to the right and go to campgrounds. The main trail is straight at these junctions and doesn't have sticks blocking it. All of these clues may change if somebody else alters them, but for a short while they may help somebody else.
