Devil's slide and snow

I was hoping to hike Devil's slide trail to the peak sometime in the near future as a day hike in preparation for Mt. Whitney. However, I want to avoid the snow. Anyone know how the conditions are on this trail right now? I was hoping to go on the 16 of May, but I don't know if this is a realistic expectation. Thanks.

Well, I called the Ranger Station and he told me reports are coming in that there is still substantial snow above 9100 feet.
