Skyline Conditions - any recent trip reports?

General Palm Springs area.

Kathy,

I sent you a pm about a Skyline to Idyllwild hike on the 18th or 25th.

Let me know if you are available either of those days. I think I will try the hike you took last Friday, Table Top, this upcoming weekend.

Kevin: I really would like to do that hike, but I'm afraid to commit to a hike on the 18th because it's so hard to tell what conditions will be like at this point and then I have plans to do Baldy with my meetup group on the 25th. There is still a good amount of snow up at the higher elevations. I might take the tram up on Sunday this weekend to see what it looks like up around San Jacinto.

It was a great hike, thank you all for a great time. I was hoping that the snow would start melting but now with this weather system coming this week i don't know.
Thank you Ellen, Steve, Kathyrn and Mark.
Mark, i did iron mountain, remember last september, it is a bitch and a half coming down but a great hike. i would love to go with Ze again, he was the hike leader that took me up last year and he was a great leader on the trail.
Hint hint, Ze, when are you going up again???
:)

Kathy,

Looks like we will have to try in May. I will try to find a hiking partner for April 25th. Enjoy your hike on Baldy.

So, if anyone is up for the 25th, let me know. I would like to run over to Idyllwild after Skyline, if anyone is interested.

I will have photos up of saturdays trip up skyline a little later tonight. They give a pretty good idea of what the snows like on skyline.

you can see a trip report and gps file/map here for Iron Mt

also have gps file / map / trip report for C2C, although I'm sure there's plenty of those around here

still not sure when I'll go up again Tina, sorry! but probably next time I will go up another crazy way which includes some high altitude abandoned mines and class 3 climbing.

Iron Mt is extremely tough and right now is totally hikable, though who knows what the weather will bring.

I picked up a book called "Supersize It" by David Money Harris and it has descriptions of 20 tough Southern California hikes in it. There are a couple of hikes/climbs in there I'd like to try like Telescope Peak from Shorty's Well and the San Antonio Ridge from Iron to Baldy - hikes that would probably have me starting and ending in the dark. I'll have to wait until more snow melts off to try them though.

Almost gone!
What? You have to wear blue?
Mine load all mixed up sometimes too. If you go to tools, arrange, sort, arrange, time and date taken, save, it puts them in order.
