The Skyline trail needs a new sign

There has been some talk of adding a warning of winter conditions to the existing sign at the 1800 ft. level on the Skyline trail. I am starting this thread to solicit advice and help to accomplish this task. With your help, we may be able to prevent some of the rescues caused by hikers that are not aware of the snow, ice, and tough routefinding that routinely causes trouble higher up on the mountain.

I figure there are two options:

1) Install a new sign
2) Replace the existing sign

Right now I am leaning to option 2. The existing sign has been in place for a few years now and contains some graffiti. Also, by using the existing post, we wouldn't need to lug up the stuff needed for a new post. The existing sign:

However, as the existing sign says, it was courtesy of "P.O.S.T. Parks, Open Space, and Trails Foundation." So I would want to talk to those people and get their blessing before touching their sign. I have no idea who those entities are, so if someone can get me contact information for them, I would appreciate it.

I also do not know anyone from the PS Mounted Police SAR, but I would like to solicit their advice since they have a stake in this situation.

Also, as was debated in the thread about the most recent skyline rescue, I am worried that certain sign wording may excite the egos of some hikers. So if anyone has advice on how to inform and dissuade unprepared hikers, but not entice others, then please contribute your thoughts and advice.

I would help haul water, concrete or whatever else is needed up the hill.

I would be willing to carry supplies as well.

I do think the sign needs to be further up the mountain for two reasons:

1) Most Vandals won't go up that far to "Tag" the sign.
2) It should be at a point where most inexperienced hikers should turn back. Giving them details of what is left of the hike and the usual precautions about what the current sign alreadys states but adding the winter conditions in "BOLD" so as to draw their attention to that part.

What ever help you need just let me know and I will do my part.

Hi, will someone who is familiar with the trail send me the legal description, either township, meridian and section or gps coordinates and will be happy to check with the land manager for replacement of the sign. Great to have a group willing to replace the sign.
