I have used the Suunto Vector for many years and really like having it right on my wrist giving me constant altitude readings. I do reset the altitude at known points, every couple hours, to maintain accuracy. Their new Core looks even sweeter.
I do have several GPSrs, including a new Oregon 200, but usually cannot justify carrying the extra 6 ounces. I just don't NEED a GPS when a topo map and a compass/altimeter will do as well or even better. Of course, YMMV.
I bought the Oregon just so I could have maps loaded it in ready to go, so I don't have to find or print a topo for a last minute trip. But, I find the level of detail lacking compared to a printed USGS map.
