It might be good idea to have a shelter ot hut at the 7200 ft level near the shattered stump where anyone in trouble could spend the night and maybe not have to call search and rescue.

Where is the sheep sign?

My point exactly. I have spoken to people on the trail that didn't see the painted rock or either of the signs.

The sign is a few minutes above the "rattlesnakes, ticks and fleas" warning sign. We all tend to ignore the signs that aren't pleasing to us.

Someone thought it wise to warn us about the damage we do to the sheep during lambing season. I and others don't agree and the sign becomes nothing more than a waypoint.

I certainly don’t think we’ll solve all the problems with “just another sign”. But doing nothing seems wrong too.

We get a lot of wintertime rescues on Skyline, the last group said they “didn’t expect those conditions on top”. Yet again one was in shorts, a T-shirt and lousy shoes.

I post here on this board to provoke good discussion. You all, collectively, have undoubtedly saved more lives than my 30 years in Emergency Services has. Keep doing what your doing!

And, if a new sign saves only ONE soul from being lost, the return on that investment is PRICELESS (I sound like a MasterCard commercial!)…

I especially like that the Curmudgeons on this board (you know who you are!) voice their opinions too. It gives this a sense of equality – and I lean toward the Curmudgeons…

I think that particular one is where the Guadalupe trail takes off of the Boo Hoff trail. (Martinez mountain in the Santa Rosas) There are loads of these signs in the Santa Rosas. Want one ?
