I wonder if the person in the most recent photo of "unusual hiking attire "
thread in the Chat section had to get a "hooking" permit

Hooking

If he looks anything like his "Avatar Picture" he's going to need more than just a "Permit" to make money hooking on any trail - and he may want to get that he/she's phone number (the one he's been taking pictures of) they'd make a cute couple?

Ellen: Sorry about all the goofy jokes. We just couldn't resist.

Kathy: I think the flowers are most intense just after you cross the wilderness boundary coming from Cottonwood heading towards Whitewater. The flowers are amazing there.

I'm hoping to get my family to come out there with me at the end of March/beginning of April to see them.

Arrgh!!!

Postby Ellen » Mon Feb 16, 2009 10:47 am

Howdy Z,

Arrgh!!! Needless to say, I completely missed that I had left out the word "up" after "hooking." The consequences of posting too rapidly and not proof-reading :-) At least it provided good entertainment for the forum.

Daivd (EnFuego) will probably never want to hike with me again. First the "event" last year and now this...

I would love to do the hike that Kathy referred to -- Mission Creek to the PCT. I'd also like to do the hike that Steve and Mark did but go uphill. I'll also avoid the canyon -- I still carry the Tamarack scars.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

lilbitmo: Cool username! I know, you've been on the forum for a while, but I have to smile everytime I see that name.

Ellen and/or Kathy: If either or both of you ladies do any part of the PCT on the north side (around Mission Creek or Cottonwood), post and I'll aim my trip for that weekend and say hi out there. I love the flowers out there, and the trail gets a little overgrown, so if I see friends out there, I feel more at ease. It would be nice to have friends for company while I wait for the Venom ER crew to come help me out if I get a rattler bite.

Zippetydude is fairly unique as well - I like that - it makes me think of moving along the trail with a melody in my mind.

It's funny you should mention that - I started doing the PCT back in late 2004 with another friend who was as slow as molases but would never give up. On each of our hikes I would take pictures of the scenery with him in it and then show it to people and then say can you see "WaldoBrad" because he would get so far behind me that I would yell out at the top of ridgelines - "Where's Waldo" and it would echo off the walls of canyons and whatnot - sometimes other hikers would come up to me minutes later laughing their arses off because they "Got it". If they were heading in his direciton I would say please tell WaldoBrad that I'm ten minutes ahead of him or I would write it in the dirt for him to find.
But in the beggining as I got close to ridgelines where we could not quite see each other I would also yell back at him "It's only a little bit more" and he being exhausted, tired, worn out from all day hikes would yell back - F#$% you or some other nasty comment because he knew it was much further than what I was making it out to be. After a while he just started introducing me to everyone as "lilbitmo" all as one word, it stuck, I liked it and that's that. :D

The sad part of that is he's not hiking these days and I know he would like to be but cannot aford to at this time, I'm trying to get him back out - he's part of the reason I started doing sections of the PCT.

How did yours come about? :?:
